Caring
for children and young adults
The Craniofacial Program is jointly run by the Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery services in Wellington and Christchurch. Craniofacial clinics are held in Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
The service cares for children with a range of craniofacial conditions requiring craniofacial surgery in the South Island and Lower North Island. The service sees approximately 120 new patients each year.
The Craniofacial Program is a national centre of excellence with a strong international reputation. It has an excellent safety record.
Craniofacial Surgery is performed as a team including Craniofacial surgeon Charles Davis and neurosurgeon Agadha Wickremesekera.
Members of the Craniofacial team are involved with teaching craniofacial surgery in developing countries and participate regularly in craniofacial research and education.
Mr Davis has a PhD in craniofacial mechanobiology. Some of the cutting edge techniques used by the team have been the subject of documentaries on 20/20 and The Discovery Channel in USA and Australia.
