for children and young adults
The Craniofacial Programme is jointly run by the Plastic Surgery
and Neurosurgery services at Christchurch, Wellington and Hutt Hospitals.
The service cares for children with a range of craniofacial
conditions requiring craniofacial surgery in the South Island
and Lower North Island. The service sees approximately 120 new patients
The Craniofacial Programme is a national centre of excellence with
a strong international reputation. It has an excellent safety record.
Craniofacial Surgery is performed as a team
by Craniofacial surgeon Charles Davis conjointly with neurosurgeons
Martin MacFarlane in Christchurch and Agadha Wickremesekera in Wellington.
Multidisciplinary Craniofacial clinics are held in Hawkes Bay,
Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. A referral from your family
doctor or Paediatrician is needed to be seen in these clinics.
Members of the Craniofacial team are involved with teaching craniofacial
surgery in developing countries and participate regularly in craniofacial
research and education.
Mr Davis has a PhD studying
craniofacial mechanobiology. Some of the cutting edge techniques
used by the team have been the subject of documentaries on 20/20
and The Discovery Channel in USA and Australia.
